Don’t Buy a BDSM Starter Kit! Here’s Why…

BDSM may seem intimidating at first, but it’s just like any other activity in life—the more you practice, the better you become! When you’re starting out, you might be tempted to buy one of those BDSM starter kits that are available on the market, but don’t waste your money! Why? Let me explain…

A lot of the items in starter kits are not useful
Sure, 18 items for less than 20 Euros may seem like a good idea, but we promise you should resist the urge to hit the “buy” button! We found that most of these kits have cheap costume-like items that aren’t useful at all.

For example, a lot of starter kits come with floggers and paddles made out of faux leather or other materials that are not ideal for playing with. They are less likely to deliver the right amount of pain or hold up to being used over time.

Plus, you may feel like you are saving money in the beginning, but we promise you will want to spend more money on better-quality BDSM gear in the long run! So, why not just save yourself the trouble and money by researching and purchasing good quality products!?!

The toys may be low quality
One common complaint among users of sex toys is that they’re either cheaply made or don’t deliver on their promises. And when it comes to bondage and discipline starter kits, you will often find low-quality gear inside, including sex toys that are made of toxic materials with chemical coatings that can burn when inserted. These kits are almost always cheap because they’re designed for newbies who won’t know better—but you will because you deserve better!

Yes, it takes more time, but invest in researching what you are buying before buying a BDSM kit. Make smart choices about what you buy. Quality over quantity will take you really far in your kinky BDSM adventures!

You may already have some items from other hobbies
I know, I know. You’re probably not too interested in starting out with expensive sex toys and BDSM gear, right? But many of you may already have things around your house that can be used for spanking, restraining, and mild torture. Duct tape, rope, ties, candles, feathers, belts, wooden cooking utensils, and sleeping masks are just a few of the items you can begin to use. 😉

They might not look sexy, but they certainly get the job done. Go ahead and try them out before you buy anything else—you might surprise yourself!

You can build your own set much cheaper than the price of the kit
If DIY is your thing, you can begin creating your own BDSM collection! You can design your own wooden paddle, weave a jute rope flogger, or get creative with things from the hardware store. There are several tutorials already available to you with just a simple search online! Just be sure to remember to think about safety here.

Make sure you or your partner(s) can not get seriously hurt or stuck in something you created. Be sure to read our guide on 5 Sex Toy Improvizations You’ll Want to Avoid when thinking about things you substitute for dildos and butt plugs.

Educate yourself before investing in a kit
If you are looking for a complete beginner kit then do yourself a favor and buy individual pieces rather than getting something pre-packaged. Start by doing some research on sex forums, Reddit or even asking friends who have experience in BDSM. We know there are a few good-quality BDSM kits out there, but finding them is not an easy task.

Why not create a list of things you and your partner(s) might want to try, and either start with things around the house or purchase individual items for your kinky arsenal that you know are safe and wellmade?

Fuck yes, I can only agree! I git spanked with one of those starter kit crop whips, and the second hit went without the tiny leather strip directly onto my ass. The first hit broke it off, so that was a hit right with a broken plastic cane and full force. Believe me, I remembered that 5-second session for a loooong time.

OUCH! We bet that hurt a lot! Where do you like to buy your crop whips now? 😉

I am interested in starting on my very own BDSM treasure chest . I have found a lot of satisfaction in rougher sex with my partner, and I can’t wait to read more on ways to spice up my bedroom.
