5 Tips for Selecting the Perfect Strap-On and Cock

Strap-ons are one of the most common sex toys in the world, and they’re popular with lots of different groups and people across many sexual identities and gender expressions. That said, not all strap-ons are created equal, so if you’re shopping for one (especially if it is your first one), keep these 5 tips in mind to make sure you get one that fits your needs perfectly!

Size Does Matter
When it comes to strap-ons, size does matter. While harnesses come in a wide range of sizes and widths, one thing that may not be obvious is how much flexibility there can be in sizing—but flexibility isn’t just for comfort.

For example, a medium may fit fine on your hips but you want something that feels perfect around your waist. There are straps you can swap out so that they’re interchangeable and made to fit your body perfectly—giving you what feels like custom support every time. If you have an interest in strap-on play with anal or vaginal sex, make sure to get a thicker and wider set with more flexibility than other styles. The experience will be heightened and more intense!

The Material of Your Harness Matters
Some harnesses have a leather interior, while others are made from nylon or other fabrics. Whatever you choose is up to you—as long as it’s comfortable.

Additionally, keep in mind that some harnesses will only fit certain dildos: nylon harnesses typically won’t work with silicone toys, for example.

If you plan on switching between different types of dildos, consider one that has interchangeable O-rings. It’s also worth noting that a snug fit should be your top priority when selecting a harness.

Comfort is Key
It’s important to feel comfortable in your harness. If you wear it for extended periods, you will want to make sure that it feels good against your skin. Plus, if you’re trying new positions or techniques with your strap-on, you’ll want to be as comfortable as possible!

Make sure that there are no rough edges or loose stitching so you don’t end up rubbing or chafing yourself during playtime. Protip: if you get red bumps after shaving, do not use a strap-on right after shaving. No matter what the material is, you might end up with some very sensitive spots to deal with for a few days after you play.

There are strapless alternatives, but you need strong kegel muscles to hold it in place inside you while it is inside you. I would not recommend this for beginners.

Strap-ons with cocks for you to enjoy can be fun but also challenging since they don’t always fit comfortably inside you while you are wearing the harness and inside your partner(s).

Budget is Important but Quality Matters Most
While most sex toy manufacturers claim to be chemical-free, many people have reported irritation and a burning sensation from their strap-on cocks. I have experienced this myself… nothing kills the mood more!

To avoid those issues, look for a strap-on made from silicone (without added chemical coating).

Silicone can last for several years and won’t cause discomfort. The cheaper products might seem like a better deal, but investing in quality will help prevent infections and irritations from occurring as you play with your partner. I have had my cock for over 5 years without any issues of deterioration.

Silicone also feels more natural which is important if you’re new to pegging or using a strap-on. Other options are nylon or vinyl but these tend to wear out quickly and lead to problems later on down the road. Before buying any toy make sure that it’s medical-grade silicone; high-quality brands are worth the investment!

Here is my personal favorite cock for anal play. In my option, the texture is a bit flexible, and I love the slight curve that easily hits the prostate. It’s not too long so I don’t have to worry as much about going too deep. I can focus more on the pleasure the girth provides my partner.

For the size kings and queens out there, be cautious of larger cocks because they hang low and are very challenging to hit the right spot without hurting your partner(s).

Know What Works For You and Your Partner(s)
You need to try a few different styles and sizes before you find what works for you. For me, it was about finding out that I like a thick leather harness that sits low on my hips and has a rigid strap going between my legs to hold my dildo in a more natural position for both me and my partner (otherwise, it’s just too uncomfortable for long periods of time). I have been pegging for over 15 years, and I can happily report the options just keep getting better!

As an avid learner, and would love to hear about your favorite harnesses, cocks, why you love them, and what you have tried that doesn’t work. Drop a comment below!
